You have a suggestion on a great hotel in downtown Chicago?

My wife and I are heading to Chicago for a long weekend. We were recently married and this is our honeymoon of sorts. When we have visited in the past we have generally stayed with friends. However, we are looking for something a little more private and romantic and hopefully downtown this time around. I've been checking all the travel sites for hotels. That said, there is just to many to choose from. I need someone with first hand experience that can recommend a great place to stay. Thank you for your help. You have a suggestion on a great hotel in downtown Chicago?
I would recommend the W Lakeshore. It's a relatively new hotel, and it offers a ton of amenities and great style, and it's on Lake Michigan, so it would be a great place for a romantic stay. You can find more information here:

Another good hotel is Hotel 71. It's more of a boutique hotel, so it feels a little cozier than a big chain. You can find more information here:

If you were recently married, check out Sybaris. It's not downtown,

but it is perfect for newlyweds.
Like you, when we travel to Chicago we generally stay with family or friends, however one time we stayed at the downtown Intercontinental on Michigan Ave.

The hotel has two ';towers'; - the North and the South Tower. The South Tower is the original old tower from the 1920's and the North is from the 60's or 70's I believe. Both were completed gutted and re-constructed in the early 90's so the interior is quite nice. It exudes a classic, rich and opulent feel rather than modern however. The lobby is spectacular and is reminiscent of Chicago in the glory days.

The room we stayed in had 1 king size bed and a pull-out couch and was about $250 a night (reasonably priced for full service - concierge, bellhop, valet parking). The furniture, drapes and linens look rich and the marble bathroom was huge and had a gorgeous shower and soaker tub! The views are beautiful - there are many windows in the room.

The pool is one of the greatest features - it looks like a Turkish bath. It is quite beautiful. The gym on site is also very nice with new equipment.

For the price you pay, this is a very great hotel and it's old, classic charm is very romantic for a honeymoon.
