its the same thing online, jus enter your debit card number and itll take the money out of ur accountIs it possible to book a hotel room online with a debit card?
there are some sites that accept debit card but usually majority of the sites book through credit card as it more safer for transaction for the holder and the seller.
I've done it several times. A debit card can also be used as a credit card - you choose which option whenever you present the card. And yes, mine is a Visa...
Yes it is possible to book a hotel room online with a debit card as long as it has the Mastercard or Visa logo on it. The reason hotels recommend for you to use a credit card is that upon check in they will put a hold on your account for between $100-$300 dollars depending on the hotel for incidentals. This will not affect people with a credit card because their credit limit is much more than this, but for those reserving with a debit card you may get declined once you use it elsewhere if there isn't enough money in your account. Just make sure that you have a high balance in your checking account and there will be no problems. Safe travels.
Yes, a Visa or Mastercard will work.
Some hotels only take your card number as a guarantee to hold the room and then you don't pay for it until you check in or check out and you may change method of payment once you are at the hotel if you wish to do so.
For hotels that do take prepayments we tend to use a system which authorises your card first and then takes the money from your account. The process of authorising your card means that for any one using a debit Maestro card your ENTIRE account may be blocked and you won't have access to any money in your account until this authorisation has been released which can take up to 5 working days. This is why you will rarely see Maestro being allowed as a method of guaranteeing payment. This can sometimes also happen with Visa debit cards but is more rare. I have yet to have it happen to a Mastercard.
Also when you arrive at the hotel please be aware that we often authorise a larger amount than what your room costs in case you have any room service/pay movies/telephone calls etc so make sure to ask if you think this may be an issue.
